Technical Services – System Administrator

At GoDaddy the future of work looks different for each team. Some teams work in the office full-time, others have a hybrid arrangement (they work remotely some days and in the office some days) and some work entirely remotely.

This is a remote position, so you’ll be working remotely from your home. You may occasionally visit a GoDaddy office to meet with your team for events or offsites.​

What you'll get to do...

• Troubleshoot and optimise performance and availability on web servers such as Apache, NGiNX, php-fpm and IIS
• Troubleshoot and optimise performance and availability on database servers such as MySQL, MariaDB and SQL Server
• Perform package management using RPM, YUM and source compilation
• Understand and explain complex technical issues to non-technical individuals
• Setup, perform and restore file system, application and database backups
• Configure, parse and review server, network and application logs
• Use system timers to run jobs at regular intervals and to run jobs at a specific time
• Configure and diagnose Mail Transfer Agents
• Audit and administer system configuration to secure hosts
• Proactively monitor services to ensure customer and internal environments are up to date and configured properly
• Contribute to the completion of other department level projects, goals, or initiatives assigned by management

Your experience should include...

• Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field, such as System Administration, or equivalent work experience
• Strong critical, analytical and investigative skills; ability to gather information, analyse facts and draw conclusions
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment

• Extensive knowledge of both Media Temple and GoDaddy products
• Must be able to sit or stand at a desk for periods of up to four hours at a time
• Must be able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers via ticketing system
• Must be able to utilise a computer intermittently throughout entire shift, for periods of up to four hours at a time, and no less than 85% of the total shift time
• Ability to focus on a specific event or activity for up to four hours at a time without interruption
• Ability to accurately learn and retain new information, knowledge and skills
• Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects, with varying degrees of priority, at the same time
• LPIC-1 or equivalent work experience
• Moderate knowledge of industry practices and standards with ability to apply those under manager direction
• Proficient in PowerShell and Bash with individual commands and shell scripting
• Experience troubleshooting Windows and Linux Servers
• Knowledge of networking concepts (e.g., DNS, TCP/IP and firewalls)
• Understanding of how to interact with virtualisation on Windows and Linux systems
• Ability to send text files and output streams through text utility filters to modify the output using standard UNIX commands
• Ability to use the Windows and Linux commands to manage files and directories
• Ability to perform process management
• Ability to manipulate files and text data using regular expressions
• Ability to update local configuration using server-side text editors
• Ability to control file and directory access through the proper use of permissions and ownerships
• Ability to create and manage hard and symbolic links to a file
• Advanced understanding of the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), including typical file locations and directory classifications
• Understanding of how web applications rely on server components
• Basic experience with Structured Query Language
• Advanced understanding of “systemd”
