Roles and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Guides daily workflow and assigns tasks to other clinical staff (nurses & Medical Assistants) to ensure compliance with established quality care and customer service standards.
  2. Performs all competencies for the core clinical position and works side by side with other nurses daily.
  3. Assesses staffing on assigned shift to verify appropriate staffing levels. Intervenes as needed to achieve appropriate staff to patient ratio within approved staffing limits and in consideration of patient care needs.
  4. Monitors and controls overtime during assigned shift.
  5. Posts daily staffing numbers for assigned shift.
  6. Ensures daily facility census for assigned shift is complete and accurate.
  7. Establishes duty assignments for staff nurses in each unit.
  8. Monitors all aspects of care delivered on all units during assigned shift.
  9. Performs patient rounds on assigned shift to control information flow and facilitate.
  10. Communicates and collaborates effectively with Pharmacist, Front office, and Physicians to ensure efficient operation of all services within the facility during assigned shift.
  11. Assists nurses as needed with admission / intake procedures for patients admitted during assigned shift.
  12. Provides clinical guidance and decision-making in the assessment of changes in patient condition.
  13. Assists Charge Nurses in facilitating appropriate and timely transfer of patients to acute care hospitals.
  14. Practices and monitors infection control compliance including protective isolation measures and maintenance of aseptic conditions. Intervenes as necessary to ensure patient and staff safety.
  15. Maintains knowledge of fire safety procedures and provides guidance as necessary to help ensure proper fire prevention and response activities.
  16. Provides supervisory oversight to all employees during assigned hours of duty by monitoring staff performance and conduct including compliance with policies and procedures, established dress code, etc.
  17. When issues that require follow-up are identified, cooperates with, and communicates information appropriately to others in Nursing leadership and / or other Department Heads.
  18. Performs all job duties in a manner that ensures that confidential information and patient rights are protected at all times.
  19. Performs all job duties in a safe manner in accordance with established safety guidelines, protocols, and expectations.
  20. Takes lead during emergencies and documents and analyse the situations.
  21. Reports unsafe conditions when noted and immediately reports accidents to immediate supervisor or another designated on-duty manager.
  22. Complies with and supports all CCA policies and procedures.
  23. Complies with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
  24. Practices and encourages effective cost containment measures by economical use of equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  25. Promotes positive patient relations and strives to achieve patient/family satisfaction.
  26. Ensures that nursing documentation is complete and accurate in compliance with standards for documentation and performs documentation audits.
  27. Provides orientation to new Nurses & Medical Assistants, train, guide, coach, and counsel as needed to correct and improve staff performance on assigned shift.
  28. Maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data and enforces HIPAA standards and regulations.
  29. Ensures that incident and accident reports (including medication error reports) are completed and submitted on a timely basis.
  30. Complies with requested compliance audits.
  31. Previews and evaluates Treatment schedule on a weekly basis (for the following week), to trouble shoot congested scheduling and ensure that treatments are spread out throughout the day.
  32. Performs other duties as necessary.
  33. Must be able to deal sensitively but objectively with chronically and critically ill patients and apprehensive families.
  34. Organizational ability is required to plan, direct, and control the activity of the treatment area and to recognize and establish priorities.
  35. Able to communicate with people beyond giving instructions, as in coordinating activities with various hospital departments and other office sites.
  36. Ability to support and defend hospital policy to all members of the staff regardless of personal opinions.
  37. Flexibility to adjust to changing conditions in the various details of the position.

Staff Nurse : Minimum 2 years of experience with

One (1) year other speciality or Critical care

One (1) year Oncology Nursing.
