To provide medical cover during hours of duty and work in conjunction with the Consultants to provide medical 24 hour service to the hospital.
- To assess the patients and perform the initial assessment.
- Timely follow up with and ensure that investigations as directed by the treating Consultant have been carried out.
- Prepare discharge summary of patients.
- To ensure the matching Bag NO., expiry date and other relevant details in case of transfusion of Blood or Blood products.
- To receive a hand-over report on patients from the alternative RMO when commencing duty and ensure that patient files are complete before leaving from the duty.
- To attend SOS calls when on duty.
- To shift the patient from the wards to the ICU depending upon the condition of the patient with due consent from the treating consultant.
- To inform the Front office and billing for admission of the patient and coordinate with them.
- Ensure that the initial assessment is done within 45 minutes of patient admission.
- To liaise with nursing staff regularly (at least every 3-4 hours) to check on patient progress, or more frequently if their condition necessitates. To see patients at the request of nurses in charge and carry out examinations of patients.
- To respond to calls from the ward relating to patient care.
- All patient information is confidential and must be respected at all times.
- To undertake emergency procedures as required (including resuscitation), taking the lead as necessary.
- To comply with all hospital policies and procedures in particular those relating to Health and Safety at Work.
- To communicate any medical problems or concerns to Consultants
