Azure Capacity Supply Chain and Provisioning (CSCP) is looking for a highly motivated data science leader to lead a team of analysts and data scientists and help them predict, optimize and build the future of cloud computing.
You will lead a well-established data science team within CSCP, responsible for managing data, feature engineering, and model innovation. You will bring thought leadership and people leadership to support development of new approaches, new models and maintain/enhance production models. Your analytics, statistical and machine learning models will drive significant investment and supply chain decisions for Microsoft’s vast and rapidly growing cloud business. You will be faced with problems ambiguous in nature and will need to think creatively and practically to develop effective solutions to address them. You will work closely with and lead analysts, data scientists, PMs, engineers, leadership teams and other stakeholders by acting both as a leader and as a subject matter expert in quantitative methods and model development that chart the course of demand for Microsoft’s entire cloud business.
In addition to leading a team, you will provide thought leadership and business insights as needed. The successful candidate will demonstrate business acumen, people leadership and ability to work effectively with cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment. You should have excellent business and communication skills to collaborate with business owners to support their needs.
Responsibilities
- Leading a team of analysts and data scientist who will research and develop production-grade reports, dashboards, diagnostic solutions and models (forecasting, anomaly detection, optimization, clustering, etc.) for our global cloud business by using visualization, rule-based systems, statistical and machine learning techniques.
- You will lead manipulation of large volumes of data, create new and improved solutions for data collection, management, analyses, and data science model development.
- Drive the onboarding of new data and the refinement of existing data sources through feature engineering and feature selection.
- Lead application of statistical concepts and cutting-edge machine learning techniques to analyze cloud demand.
- Optimize our data science model code for distributed computing platforms and task automation.
- Present analytical findings and business insights to project managers, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Keep abreast of new analytical tools, techniques, statistical / machine learning techniques and enable the team to implement them as appropriate to improve predictive performance.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• 10 + years’ experience working with analytics, data science and real world supply chain problems
• MS/PhD in Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related area
• Solid knowledge in analytics, visualization, inventory planning, network modeling, and mathematical optimization such as linear/nonlinear programming and mixed-integer programming
• Rich experience to analyze large-scale data by writing SQL queries and scripts (Python, Perl, Ruby, etc.) and the strong ability to conduct statistical analysis, modeling, and prediction
• Experience of leading mid to large size analytics and data science teams.
• Experience of working with business users, translating their needs to functional requirements, and coordinating work between technical and business teams
• Business knowledge to be able to make trade-offs between profitability and relevance
Preferred Qualifications:
• Publications (or acceptance) in refereed academic journals and invited presentations at preeminent technical conferences in the field.
• Experience communicating with both technical and business teams. Ability to speak at a level appropriate for the audience. Experience applying these skills in a business setting is a must.
• Demonstrate ability to delivering business value by implementing optimization models while integrating with IT systems
• Experience designing and implementing optimization models for inventory, network design and other characteristics of supply-chain (e.g., staff scheduling, vehicle routing, and facility location). Experience with leveraging such models to provide guidance for strategic and tactical business decision making.
• Experience implementing models and analysis tools through the use of high-level modeling languages (e.g. R, Matlab).
• Experience prototyping and developing software in traditional programming languages (C++/ Java/ Python/Perl ) a plus.
• Proficient with SQL and experience with very large-scale data. The ability to manipulate data by writing scripts (Perl, Ruby etc.).
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
