- To work under the overall supervision of the chairperson, Infection control committee and the Infection control officer for the smooth and effective functioning of a well designed, comprehensive and coordinated infection control, program aimed at reducing/ eliminating risks to the patients, visitors and providers of care.
- To understand the key areas of infection control and help in the formulation of all infection control policies and protocols to be used across the hospitals aimed at reducing the overall incidence of Hospital acquired infections.
- To be responsible for implementation of all infection control protocols for the day to day functioning of the infection control program across the hospital.
- To track down and document the hospital acquired infections in the hospitals on a monthly basis and submit the report to ICO. This is with special reference to UTI, CRBSI, VAP and SSI.
- To be responsible for overall surveillance of infection under the supervision of the ICO following the method, frequency and mode of surveillance as stated in the infection control manual .Scope of surveillance activities should incorporate tracking and analyzing infection risks, rates and trends.
- To help in the investigation and management of outbreaks should they occur. This should include knowledge of definition, Identification, Investigation and management procedure laid down for an outbreak according to good clinical practices.
- To help in the formulation of measurable performance indicators to check the compliance in the key areas of infection control with special reference to Hand Hygiene. To check hand hygiene by a specific supervision program.
- To conduct audits and supervision program based on the performance indicators to observe the compliance with infection control policies and follow it up with regular documentation and dispersion of data.
- To be responsible for education and training of all infection control policies of the staff, verbally, in writing and in person.
- To undertake implementation of infection control policies in the critical area of Biomedical waste management across the hospital to ensure that statutory provisions with regard to BMW management are complied with.
