Role :- Lead Artwork & Packaging – Nutrition
\n\nReporting to :- Head - R& D and Medical Affairs - Nutrition & Nutraceuticals- Branded Markets
\n\nLocation: Hyderabad
\n\nQualification & Experience: - Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Science/Technology/Chemistry/ Materials Engineer/ Certified packaging professional (Experience in a similar role within an FMCG environment )
\n\n10 plus years of relevant food industry experience in packaging and artwork management in nutritional and food product formats of powders, liquids and direct to consumer formats across various food /high science categories.
\n\nBusiness Understanding & Knowledge
\n\n- Understanding of DTC/ OTx/ Rx packaging formats and relation to product stability and product optimisation
- Expertise in Delivering packaging formats for different product segments such as nutrition for disease based segments for diabetes, ageing etc, and direct to consumer formats like breakfast Cereals, Biscuits, Snacks, Chips, Bars and/or Beverages
- Experience in Identifying & Evaluating the Cost optimisation strategy for packaging formats
- Understanding of newer technologies like 3D printing, innovative environment friendly packaging innovations & regulatory framework of packaging materials (incountry packaging dos and donts)
- Understanding of environmental impact on various packaging materials and representation in in-country regulatory scientific forums ( through government scientific panels)
Knowledge
\n\n- Detailed Knowledge of Science of Food, Food Supplements, Nutraceuticals/ OTX and OTC consumer packaging formats
- Knowledge in working with various packaging high end instruments (3 D printing models etc)
- Knowledge of the FSSAI Guidelines, various country Regulations & QA and QC Documentation Practices
- Knowledge in Packaging Differentiations and material science
- Knowledge of the various nuances of the Food & Nutrition Consumer Industry & Market Trends with scientific representations in various regulatory packaging trends and environmental movements
- Knowledge of Budgeting, Costing and negotiations
- Knowledge of packaging innovations and new ingredients and matrix behaviors with clear ability to predict product behaviours in correlation to packaging formats.
Area of Responsibilities:-
\n\n- Ground up development for packaging strategy in new product development in nutra to lead the design and execution of the packaging program for all nutrition/ nutra existing and new product launches in this space for both India and EM. Create and manage product specifications for new and existing products. Work closely with consumer insights teams, market data, market feedbacks, cross functional teams to design the packaging strategy keeping in mind cost optimisation yet relevant proposals and industry trends (relevant and effective activities that address the consumers’ hunger for brands that show respect for the environment) for DTC, OTX, OTC formats along with high end prescription driven nutrition/ nutraceutical formats in order to facilitate faster turnaround and cost effective New Product launches in the Food & Nutrition Business.
- Establishment and management of packaging sustainability targets to Provide Technical Leadership to the External Partners/ Vendors to understand and define the scope of overall packaging sustainability and cost optimisation across packaging options. Development with anticipated risk and mitigation plan and identified packaging profiles profiles; Ensure availability of TPP (Target Product Profile), Product Costing sheet/ Tentaive Product Development Costing including Ingredients & Clinical Studies by obtaining inputs form the respective teams along with availability of Ingredients & Binders IN ORDER TO ensure that all the products to be introduced have a comprehensive strategy during the Introduction Phase-Gate meeting and ensure Robust Flow of Products for Introduction into Food & Nutrition Business. Own the technical packaging design and development for a variety of projects within the programmes of value leadership, ecommerce and sustainability. Lead the optimisation of existing packs and packaging materials to improve cost, quality and how they perform on our machines.
- Ownership of the packaging development pipeline to Develop Packaging Innovation and Technology pipeline in order to Develop Food & Nutrition Products which meet Nutritional and Organoleptic Profile and have inbuilt Quality to support the Nutrition Claims and conform to Stability & Analytical Tests. Responsible for developing new packaging concepts cross functionally, including the materials and their testing methods including the production of packaging samples in the lab or through suppliers. Define and lead successful line trials in factories/suppliers/co-packers including ensuring the relevant documentation is produced and results are accurately recorded. Collaborate with product & process development counterparts, commercial partners, and external supply partners to develop and recommend options to bring ideas to life.
- Packaging Lab development and Process Management to Develop Relationships and Liaise with Different Partners, Departments, Verticals, Functions, Leaders, Regulatory Bodies accross the Value Chain. To stay on top of industry trends, serve as a thought leader for packaging and delivery systems, and serve as a champion for sustainability.Understand recent trends in new Product Ideation methodologies, Technology based packaging Innovations, - create the value stream mapping for laid processes and systems, understand unmet organizational and business needs and provide creative solutions in collaboration with other teams; Evaluating & reviewing integrated business operations & practices, updating, streamlining opportunities and eliminating non-value added activities IN ORDER TO develop systems to enhance operational effectiveness and meet goals within cost, time & quality parameters & build in-house capability for Packaging Development of Food & Business R&D. Emphasis on process management within the R&D Department, and cross-functionality to help drive efficiency gains and accelerated speed to market through improved data and process controls from package innovation to artwork management to support overall product launch and beyond. Responsible for complete operationlisation of current packaging lab in DRNDC and future needs from a overall packaging requirements for various formats.
- FSSAI Regulatory Framework Compliances and In- country regulatory and environmental compliances to Drive systems and processes for effective responses to regulatory queries & deficiencies as well as proactive prevention of potential deficiencies; Guide associated teams in responding to complex deficiencies related to packaging areas of specialization basis need; To be on the top of industry trends for relevant and effective activities that address the consumers’ hunger for brands that show respect for the environment/ recyclable packaging options ( refillable packaging options, Returnable/reusable packaging etc)
