Safety tips for walk-in job seekers

LocalWalkins screens every posting with AI fraud detection, but scammers still slip through. Use this checklist before applying to or interviewing for any job.

Red flags — walk away

Any request for money. Genuine employers never charge a registration, training, equipment, or "security deposit" fee. This includes UPI requests, GPay/PhonePe collect requests, and bank transfers — no matter how convincing the reason.

Personal documents before an offer letter. Don't share your Aadhaar number, PAN, bank passbook, or educational originals during a casual chat or first interview. Wait for a written offer on the employer's letterhead.

Interviews in unusual locations. A legitimate walk-in happens at the company's office or a clearly identified partner location. Be cautious of interviews scheduled in hotels, residences, or co-working spaces you can't verify.

Pressure to decide immediately. "You must confirm by tonight" or "the seat will go to someone else" is a manipulation tactic. Real employers give you time to consider an offer.

Pay that's too good to be true. A 12,000 ₹/month entry-level role suddenly offering 60,000 ₹/month with no experience required is a lure. Cross-check the salary against similar postings on LocalWalkins.

Green flags — usually safe

Verified company badge. Companies with the "Verified" tag on LocalWalkins have submitted GST and registration documents that we've cross-checked. Always prefer verified listings if available.

Public, official contact details. A real employer's phone number, email, and address should be consistent across their website, Google listing, and the LocalWalkins posting.

Clear job description. Specific responsibilities, working hours, location, and pay range — not just "great opportunity, contact for details".

Report a suspected scam

If a job posting or recruiter contact feels wrong, please report it — even if you're not sure. Reports go to our trust & safety team and help protect other job seekers.

For financial fraud, also report to cybercrime.gov.in or call the national cyber-crime helpline 1930.
